D-DAY COMMEMORATIVE DANCE JUNE 6TH
CAROLINA’S WING (COMMEMORATIVE AIR FORCE) FUND RAISER
June 6TH, the anniversary of D-DAY, will find the Commemorative Air Force sponsoring a Big Band Dance at the Moore County Airport, Southern Pines, NC, once again uniting the CAF with the Sand Hills Community College Jazz Band under the direction of Mr. Tim Haley. Radio host and personality Emerson Cole will be the emcee for the night’s activities.
There will be 1940’s dance contests, prizes for the best 1940’s civilian and military dress, door prizes, and a special name that tune context. Dancing will begin at 7 PM and end at 10 PM with a special USO performance between dance sets.

Veterans of all our Armed Services will be honored, with special emphasis on recognizing survivors of D-Day, June 6th, 1944.
For those who love the music of the 1940’s this will be an opportunity to kick up your heels to live Jazz music, or, just sit and listen and enjoy the arrangements of Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and other Big Band sounds.
The Carolina’s Wing of the Commemorative Air Force maintains and operates a 1944 Stinson Reliant (V-17) out of the Moore County Airport. This classic “taildragger” will be on display during the dance and will also be available for rides during the afternoon of June 6th. Recently renovated and repainted, the Stinson is an excellent example of a 65 year old airplane still in perfect flying condition. This aircraft say service in India during World War Two. It has been restored to the livery of the British Royal Navy. All proceeds go to the maintenance of the Stinson.
For anyone appearing at the dance in full uniform there will be a $5 discount on their ticket when purchased that evening.
